hi there,

i know evey child is different but my little girl (at 3 months) loved lying on her back on her winnie the poo floor gym mat, she’d just chat away to winnie and kick her legs and stuff. that sometimes gave me up to 30-45 minutes of free time at a time to do chores. make sure to keep her in same room where she can see you and you can even join in the conversation.

I think you just need more practice and maybe a new position. Keep trying, and make sure you are doing something interesting while baby is in the sling!

The key is to put her in the sling in different positions until you find one she likes. Then MOVE! Babies like to move when they are in the sling, as they moved alot when they were indside you and want to recreate that feeling.

At 3 months i put my son on my back in the Ergo and he loved it. We still use it occasionaly at age 2!

I used to live in Korea and would see all these women carrying their children on thier backs wrapped in a blanket. The kids didn’t seem to mind and the women were doing everything such as shopping, working in the rice fields and such! Hope that works. Goodluck

Get someone to demonstrate a sling for you. Maybe you aren’t using it properly. There will most likely be many slinging mommas at your local La Leche League.

I carried my son 24/7 from the day he was born, until he started crawling at about 5 1/2 6 months. I haven’t been able to carry him since. Babies at that age don’t grasp the concept of object permanance, so it helps her to know you are close by holding her. If your arms are aching for a break, try asking your husband to help out and hold her for a little while. Try a baby swing, like mentioned above the constant moving could help, just don’t expect to be able to leave the room with out some tears at first. Good luck to you.

Get one of those little vibrating chairs. I had a leapfrog one for my daughter that vibrated and had toys and played classical music and lit up different colors. She LOOOVED it, and so did I. You can pop the little one into the chair, and just take it into whatever room you are going to be in. That way baby can watch and be near mama, but not have to actually be ON you all the time. Its great, you can take that time to talk and tell baby what you are doing, and they like to watch everything you do. Those chairs are also fantastic because they often put baby right to sleep. That thing was my extra ME! She especially loved it when I put her up on the counter (away from anything dangerous), while I was cooking. She loved all the smells and sounds and movement. Make it fun!

Let her cry it out, but make sure you don’t leave her in a room alone to do it. You don’t want her to think she’s been abandoned.

Try a baby swing. Sometimes they find the movement comforting.

Make your life easier now by trying to start to leave her in a secure chair, she may cry to begin with but you’ll never have a life if you carry on taking her everywhere with you, it may sound harsh but she’s still young enough to get her out of this habit.
