I felt it was very valuable even though I have babysay numerous infants and such. The doctors and nurses told me exactly what to do during childbirth and I did what came naturally. 7 pushes and my son was out. I am sure you'll do fine. I was sooooo worried childbirth would be terrible, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined, in fact, it was much easier. I hope you have the same expirience! Maternal insticts will kick in from the moment that your child arrives, so I do not believe that the classes are neccessary. And the childbirthing classes can be useful to some women, i guess. I did the classes and it was more of an "excitement" of being around other new parents than it was a learning experience. After all, you know it's going to hurt, and the worst thing to do is fight the pain, it makes it worse. You'd be better off with the dvds. It was interesting to people watch though. A few just showed up for the free stuff at the beginning and left. One would bring a different person with her each week. Only 3-4 couples where married and one girl who was still in high school told the class she wanted to name her child Courage. Ya know, it takes courage to have a child at her age. I would suggest taking them, even though you have been around babies, you still don't know how to treat a newborn, what your newborn will go through, what YOU will go through, I mean, its SO much more informative if you go. I was also around babies and children alot, and my husband wasn't. I wouldn't push him. Being a parent is a natural thing. You don't need someone to tell you how it is done, or show you how to do it.
