3 is a good age to change to a booster seat . It also depends on how much your kid weighs

If he’s too big for the car seat it’s unsafe for him.

Put him in the booster.

I’d say around 2 years is when a child should go in a booster.

This works wonderful for my daughter. For a booster seat they are supposed to weight 40 pounds and my daughter doesn’t quite weigh that yet, but she is very tall for her age so squishing her into an actual baby car seat was uncomfortable. This is a booster seat with an unatatchable back on it. It works just like a booster seat when the back is on it, the seatbelt just straps over the child and then when they meet the age/weight requirement you can take the back off and it’s just a booster seat. It’s the last carseat you will ever need!

By law the child should be 4 years old and 40 pounds. If your son seems to be outgrowing his car seat look at the convertible seats that move from car seat to booster seat. My son was always big and hit the 40 lb mark when still 3 but had to stay in his car seat. We had a Cosco convertible car seat / booster and it seemed comfortable for him while he grew. Also check with your local recreation center or health department. They should offer car seat evaluations and installations. Whenever I get a new seat or have to change positions (rear facing to forward, seat to booster, etc) I go to them. It is free and takes only about 20 minutes.

i switched him at 3 because he outgrew the car seat.

it doesn’t matter what age your son is, its the weight that matters most.

my DD was almost 3 but her weight was correct, although we got one with the back on, then that comes of when they are about 5/6 yrs.

my girls were 3 and 4 when we switched to the booster seats with the attatable backs. Those had a weight requirement of atleast 30 pounds, and that is only with the back on. A normal booster seat was 40 pounds. I would go by the weight limit, better be safe than sorry.

look at weight and hight, if your in the uk go to a halfords they would be able to help, not every child is the same.
