I've seen 3 seats across the back seat of a 2 door chevy cavalier, it can be done. Here's the downside: it very likely may mean replacing all 3 seats in exchange for 3 that will work together. Here's a place to go to check the measurements of common seats: http://www.carseatdata.org/ There's also a link on the page to check whether a particuar car seat is compatible with your car. Check the forum below in the links as getting three seats across is a frequent discussion item. Also, the Sunshine Kids Radian65/Radian80 is one of the narrowest seats made, it's a convertible that goes 5-65lbs and 5-80lbs, rear and front facing. Find a store where you can try one out though, as they can be hard to install correctly.
References :
http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=13647
