Reviews of the Britax Frontier 85 Combination Booster Car Seat

1. We recently bought this car seat after doing a great deal of research on seats for our toddler and concluding
that this was the best choice on the market. Now, it did seem as if setting up this seat would be terribly
complicated and I was a little worried about being able to even put it together, especially after reading what
other buyers had to say about setting it up.
I read the instruction manual right away and after sleeping on it, I decided to take up the challenge and try
installing it. Much to my surprise and delight, I found it to be very easy to install. Now it is a bit on the heavy
side, though this also means that it's more durable than many other models on the market. I'm very satisfied with
the seat and feel like our son is safe riding in our car in this seat, even here in New York City - which means
it's worth every cent. I would recommend this car seat to anyone.
2. I bought this car seat for a 9 year old child with special needs who had a habit of escaping from his booster
seats. This seat is much more secure as well as more comfortable and easy to adjust - it's even easy to switch it
out from one car to another. The harness works perfectly and since it is so adjustable, it should fit him for at
least another couple of years.
3. We bought two of these seats, one each for our two year old and our four year old; these were to replace
other Britax seats (a Britax Marathon and a Britax Frontier) after they were damaged in an accident. I've been
nothing but pleased with this seat.
PRO:
This model has buttons which keeps the lower latches from sliding down the strap.
The flap on the bottom of the seat snaps in rather than rebounding.
The new cup holder on this model is easier to clean; important when you have young children like we do.
CONS:
I thought the lever for adjusting the tightness on the older Britax Frontier was easier to use.
I liked how the latch loops for adjusting the tightness was on both sides on the older model instead of just one,
since you could use your dominant arm to tighten it no matter which side you installed the seat on.
The cover sometimes doesn't stay tucked in near the cup holder, but obviously, this is a minor problem.
I'd gladly buy another Britax car seat, since I'm a firm believer in their quality.
4. My son find this seat to be comfortable and it lets him move a little more than many other car seats allow
for; for instance, it lets him do more than just dangle his legs over the edge of the seat. Since he's very young
yet, he can use the front of the seat as a footrest. All the proof you need that this is an exceptionally
comfortable car seat is this: we just got back from a six day road trip and our son had no complaints
whatsoever.
Honestly, the only negative I can think of is that the seatbelt track on the back of the seat is small and it
was tough to get the belt into the track, even though I have small hands. However, the latch system makes it a
little easier to handle than it could be otherwise. My son seems to appreciate the dual cup holders and besides the
seatbelt installation, we all love this car seat.
5. We like our Britax carseats. We have the Marathon and we've recently picked up the Frontier 85 - and we're
enthused about the brand overall. While we'd read that two Britax car seats plus two tall people isn't a
comfortable combination for a sedan (we have a VW Jetta) and we're both tall. We've found a solution to this; we
positioned the Marathon rear facing behind my seat and the Frontier 85 on the other side of the car. However,
this configuration is anything but comfortable. The buckles on the seat belt of the Frontier also tend to get very
hot, so parents should be aware of that.
